PG given ten days to make a decision on prosecuting Shaan

The Criminal Court has given the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office ten days to make a decision on whether to prosecute Ali Shaan of H. Hicoast, who has been accused of involvement in the murder of Dr Afrasheem Ali.

The Criminal Court gave this order at the session held today for the extension of Shaan’s detention period.

The court has been extending Shaan’s detention period by fifteen days on every occasion in the past; this time, however, the extension was only for ten days.

The case against Shaan was sent to PG Office on 4 December 2012, together with the case against Hussain Humaam of H. Lobby.

The state has charged Humaam with deliberate murder. The allegations have been denied by Humaam, for whom the state has now provided a lawyer.

Dr Afrasheem Ali was murdered between 11:30 pm and 2:00 am on the night of 1 October 2012 as he entered his residence H. Funvilu.
