Foreign Relations Committee approves increasing responsibilities of six envoys

Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee, on Thursday, has approved increasing the responsibilities of six envoys by their appointment as non-resident ambassadors to additional nations and as permanent representatives to international organizations.

The six envoys were nominated for the posts by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. They include:

  • Current Maldivian ambassador to the US Abdul Ghafoor Mohamed as the non-residential ambassador to Canada
  • Current Maldivian ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ahmed Sareer as the non-residential ambassador to Kuwait and Egypt 
  •           Current Ambassador of Maldives to Bangladesh Shiuneen Rasheed as the non-resident Ambassador of Maldives to Bhutan
  •          Current Maldivian ambassador to the UK Dr. Iruthisham Adam as the permanent representative of Maldives to the International Maritime Organization (IMO)
  •          Current Maldivian ambassador to the UAE Mohamed Hussain Shareef as the permanent representative of Maldives to the International Renewable Energy Agency (IREA)
  •         Current Permanent representative of the Maldives to the United Nations in Geneva Dr. Salma Rasheed as the permanent representative of Maldives to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and non-resident Ambassador of Maldives to Switzerland

The Foreign Relations Committee approved the appointment of all six individuals by the unanimous votes of all nine members in attendance.
