President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday assured the government will procure the top-quality brands to provide health services.

He made the remarks during his visit to Raa atoll An’golhitheemu amid the ongoing trip to the atoll.

During his meeting with the island’s residents, Muizzu said the government was working on ensuring the equipment at health centers operated without interruptions. While highlighting ongoing efforts of bulk purchasing high-quality pharmaceuticals and ensuring they are sold at affordable prices across local pharmacies, the president noted his administration’s efforts to install top-quality equipment in health facilities as well.

“These will be bulk procured and brought in sufficient quantities for the islands, and they require their reagents, and bringing equipment of these brands will ease maintenance of them. We have decided this now,” President said.

He noted the difficulty in acquiring accessories and parts to the medical equipment in the islands currently. He added the entire maintenance process therefore, incurs significant costs and affirmed that such costs will be reduced in the future.

“Even in terms of quality, better services will be provided to the people when we bring top-quality machinery,” he added.

During the meeting at An’golhitheemu, the island’s council and Bank of Maldives (BML) signed an agreement to install an ATM vestibule in the island.

The government has set the target to install ATMs across all residential islands before the end of 2025.
