Two cruiseliners have arrived in Male’ with thousands of tourists.
With the arrival of these two cruiseliners, the total number of cruiseliners to dock in the Maldives this season has now reached three.
The second cruiseliner of the season, ‘MS Norwegian Sky’, arrived in Malé on Sunday morning with 1,872 passengers. According to the Maldives Association for Yacht Agents (MAYA), the cruiseliner will remain in the Maldives for two days.
The third cruiseliner of the season, ‘MS Riviera’, arrived in Male’ on Monday morning.
Thousands of tourists from both cruiseliners have disembarked to explore Male' and islands.
The season's first cruiseliner, ‘MS AIDAstella’, arrived in Male’ on the morning of December 8th. It was carrying 2,140 passengers and 639 crew members.
Speaking with Sun earlier, MAYA’s President Mohamed Nasheed said 14 or 15 cruiseliners are expected to arrive in the Maldives during this season. While the season is expected to conclude in March, Nasheed said the forecasted arrivals of cruisliners are much lower than hoped by the Association.
While cruiseliners have started arriving in the Maldives, the nation reached its two million tourist arrival goal for the year last week.
