The Ministry of Finance has opened bidding opportunity seeking interested proponents to install a wind-energy power generation system in Noonu atoll Manadhoo.

According to the ministry, this falls within the scope of the Accelerating Sustainable System Development Using Renewable Energy (ASSURE) project run by the Maldives government with the assistance from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The ministry announced bidding is open for all eligible proponents to install the wind renewable pilot system.

The bidding will proceed through an open competitive approach in compliance with ADB’s single stage-to-envelope. The bidding document provides all the requirements for proponents to satisfy the eligibility criteria, the ministry added.

Proponents are required to pay a non-refundable registration fee of MVR 1,500 or USD 100 to participate in the bidding. Registration window opened on Monday with deadline set for February 6, 2025. Payment for registration shall be made via Bandeyri Pay at https://bandeyripay.finance.gov.mv.

Proponents who wish to make payments by other electronic means are required to request for bank account details by mailing to the ministry.

Bids will be opened at 13:00 on February 10, 2025 at the National Tender Meeting Hall of the Finance Ministry. All bids must be submitted in sealed envelopes, with the bid title, opening date and time, and the bidder details must be written on the envelope.

Maldives government signed agreements worth USD 75 million with the ADB on December 12, last year towards expanding renewable energy infrastructure across the country.

Earlier, the ministry also announced the government will establish a liquidity support facility to avert any potential payment delays to procure electricity from Fenaka and to increase private sector investment on renewable energy.

Besides this, the ministry said the funds would be utilized towards introduction of renewable energy sources (wind-based or water-based) in at least two local islands and strengthen renewable energy regulations to improve the functions of the Environment Ministry and Fenaka Corporation.
