PPM to conduct drug awareness programs aimed at youth

The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) has said that preparations are ongoing to conduct drug awareness programs aimed at young people in the country.

PPM Youth Group President Ibrahim Nazim said at a press conference at PPM Office that the awareness program, which will focus on saving the youth from drugs and providing rehabilitation, will begin soon.

He said that the programs have no political motive, and urged all political parties and NGOs to participate in these efforts.

“All political parties should cooperate and set aside political differences when it comes to national issues such as this one. PPM assures that it will support and fully cooperate with any political party in similar programs,” he said.

Referring to the statement by Police Commissioner Abdullah Riyaz that the strong drug LSD was presently in circulation in the Maldives, Nazim said that the police have conducted several successful operations recently in closing the avenues by which such drugs enter the country. He thanked the police for their efforts, and called on the government to further strengthen such operations in the future.
