President Waheed meets with Presidents of Palestine and Turkey

President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik has met with President of Palestine Dr Mahmoud Abbas and President of Turkey Abdullah Gül, as part of his current visit to Egypt to attend the 12th summit meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

At the meeting with the Palestinian President, President Waheed congratulated Palestine and its people for becoming the non-member observer State in the United Nations. He also reassured President Abbas of Maldives’ strong support for the peace process.

President Abbas thanked the government and the people of Maldives for the strong support to Palestine.

The President’s Office said that during the meeting between President Waheed and Turkish President Gül, the two leaders discussed ways to enhance economic relations between the two countries. President Waheed briefed President Gül on the investment opportunities in the Maldives in the areas of housing, construction, fisheries and tourism.

President Gül highlighted the close and long standing bilateral relationship between the two countries, and expressed interest in expanding this relationship to other areas. In this regard, he expressed desire to extend assistance to strengthening trade relations, especially in the development of fisheries sector.
