The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Wednesday has signed with the University of Auckland to conduct research on seabirds and seasonal birds.

Minister of Environment Thoriq Ibrahim signed on the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on behalf of the government.

EPA said the research aims to assess the movement and behaviours of seabirds, including their nesting locations and methods of acquiring food.

The information from the research will help formulating policies aimed at protecting these animals, EPA added.

The agency further said this is a key step towards protection of the natural environment and wildlife in the Maldives.
