The Maldives Police Service on Tuesday said it is probing additional factors related to the death of Zakiyya Moosa to complete the investigation.
Zakiyya Moosa, aged 50, was found dead with serious injuries to her body in her residential island N. Holhudhoo on the morning of September 10th.
A team of police officers from Male’ City arrived in Holhudhoo on the same day to conduct investigation into Zakiyya’s death. The body was brought to Male’ on the same evening to conduct additional investigation.
However, authorities did not conduct post-mortem on the body and was sent back to her island, where she was buried.
While it has been two months to Zakiyya’s possible unnatural death, Holhudhoo citizens had protested on Tuesday regarding the delays in the investigation.
Holhudhoo public claimed Zakiyya’s death was unnatural and demanded expediting the investigation into her death. They also demanded publicizing the investigative reports of authorities.
Police, while speaking with ‘Sun’, confirmed the authority was looking into additional factors related to the case currently and informed a press briefing will be held at a later date to provide the latest details.
While Zakiyya’s body was discovered with bruises on her neck, a source from Holhudhoo who previously spoke to ‘Sun’ claimed a knife had been found near her body as well.
Police had not revealed any suspects in the case so far.
