Dhiraagu, Women in Tech successfully holds ‘Girls to Code’ in Dhidhdhoo

Dhiraagu and Women in Tech Maldives have announced the successful completion of the ‘Girls to Code’, HA. Dhidhdhoo Edition - aimed at empowering young girls on the island with essential coding skills in HTML, CSS, Flask and Python.

The program, designed for girls aged 10 to 13, was conducted over a period of two months with the aim of inspiring them to pursue opportunities in technology and address the gender gap in the industry. In this regard, 20 participants with no prior experience in coding developed practical skills, ultimately creating their own websites by the end of the program.

Their achievements were celebrated at a special closing ceremony held at Dhidhdhoo.

Commenting on the program, Dhiraagu’s Corporate Social Responsibility Manager Bishara Hameed expressed the company’s belief that the Girls to Code program empowers young girls to acquire essential skills, ignite interest from an early age, build confidence in their abilities, and find inspiration to explore the tech field further.

Women in Tech’s President Nahza Ibrahim said the participants showed that there is no limit to what they can achieve with the right support and opportunities.

“We hope that this program not only equips them with technical skills but also sparks a lifelong passion for learning and innovation that will carry them forward into promising futures,” she added.

As per Dhiraagu, the program Is part of its commitment to inclusion and women’s empowerment through its CSR program.

In collaboration with Women in Tech, the telecom operator has held successful ‘Girls to Code’ editions in Fuvahmulah City, GDh. Thinadhoo, Kulhudhuffushi City, and Laamu Atoll. Both organizations affirmed commitment to continue similar initiatives to foster a more inclusive and dynamic tech industry for future generations.
