Two nominated for deputy tax commissioner role

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has nominated two candidates for the position of the Deputy Tax Commissioner at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA), including the incumbent Deputy Tax Commissioner Asma Shafeeq.

The President’s Office had opened applications for the post as the term of Deputy Tax Commissioner Asma is set to expire this month.

A letter by President Muizzu asking the Parliament to vet the candidates was read during the parliamentary sitting on Wednesday morning. In his letter, the candidates were listed based on his preference.

On top of the list was Fathimath Ameeza, Cozy Round, GDh. Gadhdhoo. Asma’s name was placed second.

The nominations have been sent to the Economic Committee for vetting.

The term of a Deputy Tax Commissioner is five years. The incumbent Deputy Tax Commissioner, Asma, was appointed on October 31, 2019.
