FM Khaleel describes India state visit as a success

Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel has described President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s state visit to neighboring India this week as a success.

President Muizzu traveled to India on Sunday, marking his first state visit to the nation since assuming office. He returned to Maldives earlier today.

Minister Khaleel who was part of the high-level government delegation that accompanied the President shared a post on X regarding the visit, in which described it as a success and another milestone in the longstanding relationship between Maldives and India.

“This visit, defined by insightful discussions and deepened partnership, marks yet another milestone in the enduring friendship between Maldives and India,” he said.

In his post, the Minister also extended gratitude to India’s Minister of External Affair Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the government of Indian and the people for their warm and generous hospitality.

Minister Khaleel also affirmed the government’s commitment to further enhancing Maldives-India ties, adding he looks forward to promising future collaborations for the mutual benefit of our two nations and their people.

President Muizzu had embarked on the state visit to India at the invitation of Indian President Droupadi Murmu.

During the trip, he had meetings with President Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top Indian government officials.

The visit has also come under scrutiny of the opposition, with statements made by senior officials from ruling PNC under its ‘India Out’ campaign while they were the opposition being recirculated on social media.

However, President Muizzu has assured any act that would harm Maldives’ sovereignty and independence had not taken place during the trip.
