Minister of Environment and Energy Dr. Mariyam Shakeela has urged all countries to work together towards building a green global economy.
Speaking at the currently ongoing 13th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS), Dr. Shakeela said that in addition to efforts towards reaching a green global economy, efforts must be made towards protecting and ensuring that fundamental resources such as water, energy and food are produced in a sustainable manner.
Dr. Shakeela also met with Director General of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) Rajendra K. Pachauri, who is also the Chairman of Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
In her meeting, the Minister highlighted the environmental problems facing the Maldives, and also the damages caused to the Maldives environment by the climate change. The summit was organized by The Energy and Resources Institute.
Maldivian Ambassador to India Mohamed Naseer also participated in the meetings.
The Summit was inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh, and attended by several government ministers, ambassadors, and experts of the relevant fields.
