Schools closed on Thursday for holidays after the conclusion of the first term of the prevailing academic year.
Schools reopened for the new academic year following the long holidays on May 26th.
As schools closed for first term holidays on Thursday, they are set to reopen for the second term on Sunday, October 6th.
According to the Education Ministry, the prevailing academic year commenced with 96,000 students; 40,300 females and 42,700 males.
17,000 out of the 96,000 students are studying at schools based in Male’ area.
Over 13,000 students are studying in private schools, of which approximately 9,000 students are studying at private schools based in Male’ area.
A total of 2,250 were newly enrolled for first grade at the commencement of the prevailing academic year while 1,126 students from atolls shifted to Male’ area schools.
Schools across the nation were in operation with a total of 12,662 teachers of which most are Maldivians. In this regard, 10,729 teachers are Maldivians while the remaining 1,933 are foreigners.
156 schools are holding single-session classes this academic year while 55 schools are holding dual-session classes.
