Court publicizes robbery suspect identify, gets 15-day remand

The Criminal Court has publicized the identify of the suspect who allegedly stole from the drug court, and sentenced a 15-day remand.

Maldives Police Service confirmed to local media the individual is one Mohamed Aslam, 32 (Dhekula Araage, S. Hithadhoo), who is suspected of robbing drug court. Police said the incident was reported last Tuesday, and the suspect was subsequently arrested on Saturday.

Cases of thievery and robbing have become rampant across Maldives over the past months, with burglaries in shops, mosques and other venues reported frequently.

Police have begun publicizing the identities of suspects arrested in such cases to increase public vigilance.
