Police postpone emptying Usfasgandu

The police have decided to postpone executing the notification to empty Usfasgandu area.

The police had earlier issued a deadline to vacate Usfasgandu, an area used by Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) to hold political activities. The police said that the decision to postpone emptying Usfasgandu comes following the High Court order to keep the area under police supervision and not allow any group to use it for any activities.

The High Court has issued an order upon the police, indicating that Usfasgandu should not be used by any group or leased to any group for activities, until the court makes a decision on the case appealed in court in relation to Usfasgandu.

Police took over Usfasgandu this evening, and have blocked access to the area.
