National airline, Maldivian, has cut down the frequency of flights operated to Bangladesh’s capital, Dhaka.

An official from the airline confirmed the reduction of the frequency of flights to Dhaka from two flights per week to one flight per week.

“Frequency of flights have been reduced. It was previously two times per week. Now it will be on Fridays only,” the official said.

Maldivian earlier had suspended flights to Dhaka amid the political unrest in Bangladesh.

The official said the airline had halted flights to Dhaka for a week during the unrest in line with instructions to suspend all international flights with certain exceptions but however, has resumed operations since then.

The protests at Bangladesh began after the Bangladesh High Court decided to reinstate the quota system for government jobs, which allocated a significant portion of these jobs to the family members of freedom fighters. The unrest saw the resignation of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the formation of an interim government.
