Maldivian Foreign Ministry has yet again cautioned Maldivians residing and traveling to the UK in light of ongoing riots in the country.
The rioting comes in the wake of the tragic stabbing in Southport of three children at a dance and yoga class. Online misinformation attributed the killings to a Muslim immigrant which prompted anti-Muslim and anti-immigrant riots.
In a statement on Wednesday night, the Foreign Ministry said they have received information that over 100 riots are planned. Henceforth, they strongly urged Maldivians residing in the UK and traveling to the nations to exercise utmost caution.
They also urged Maldivian citizens to avoid areas where rioting is taking place, and follow instructions issued by the Maldivian High Commission in the UK.
Maldivian citizens who require any assistance in light of the UK riots have been instructed by the Foreign Ministry to contact the Maldivian High Commission in London at (+44) 0207 224 2135 or via email at [email protected] or [email protected].
They have also stressed the importance of Maldivians residing in the UK registering with the High Commission.
