The suspect, arrested for alleged assault using weapons at Hanimaadhoo International Airport, has received a 15-day remand.

A few of the airport's employees resorted to armed violence last Friday, with the altercation leaving an Indian expatriate of 37 years of age injured.

Authorities arrested a fellow countryman of the victim, aged 39.

The Maldives Police Service confirmed to local media on Sunday that the suspect was summoned to court, where they received the remand.

Police said they received a report of armed assault around 20:00 on Friday evening, adding that the suspect was taken into custody while the injured victim was treated at Hanimaadhoo Health Center.

Cases of violence and assault have been increasing in the country, with some resulting in grievous bodily injuries and, in a few instances, leading to fatal consequences.
