Ooredoo Maldives has officially begun extending its services through the international PEACE cable established earlier.

Ooredoo began work of establishing the PEACE cable in Kulhudhuffushi City, the first-ever international submarine cable establishment outside of Greater Male' area, back in February 2024.

The cable was connected to the landing site established in the northernmost city.

Ooredoo Maldives confirmed launching its services via the submarine cable at the press conference held on Wednesday evening in commemoration of the company's 19th anniversary.

CEO and Managing Director of Ooredoo Maldives, Khalid Al-Hamadi, while speaking at the conference, said that the establishment of this cable that connects the Maldives with Singapore and Europe was a landmark achievement for the company as well as for the country in its ambition towards becoming a digital nation.

He added that the new submarine cable will enhance connectivity, thereby reducing lags and interruptions.

"I am certain customers will receive full benefit from this investment," said Hamadi.

Previously, Ooredoo Maldives added that the cable is poised to enhance 5G connectivity across the country and allow the company to offer new and exciting services to the customers.

Besides this, Ooredoo Maldives introduced a slew of new services and exclusive offers to celebrate its 19th anniversary, celebrated on August 1st.

PEACE Cable which stands for 'Pakistan and East Africa Connecting Europe', is a submarine cable project aimed at facilitating faster data transmissions between Asia, Europe and Africa. The cable became fully operational in December 2022.
