Lhaimagu Chief suspended from work, his salary also withheld

Sh. Lhaimagu Council passed a resolution today suspending the Council Chief from work and salary.

President of Lhaimagu Council Hussein Zahir said today that the provision of obligatory services by the Council civil services staff to citizens is part of Chief Ibrahim Naeem’s responsibility, and yet this is constantly obstructed by him.

President of the Council, in which MDP holds majority, said that the Civil Services Commission had been informed of the situation on six separate occasions, and that the decision to suspend Naeem comes due to the fact that he fails complete tasks assigned to him.

“We have sent about six letters to Civil Services Commission, and replies have been received as well. However we are not happy with their replies. Until they respond to this matter in the way that we want them to, the Chief cannot return to work,” Zahir said.

Chief of Lhaimagu Council Naeem said that he has been informed by a Council resolution to stay at home and that his salary is withheld, with effect from today.

He further said that the decision to suspend a civil service employee has to come from Civil Services Commission; the Council does not have the right to make such a decision. He further said that the statements made about him by the Council are untrue, and that a document containing a truthful account of the events that took place has been provided to the Civil Services Commission.

“What they are saying about me is not true. They are doing this to pester me,” Naeem said.

He further said that he was elected to the Council as a member of DRP, and that he has been pressured from the day that five MDP members were elected as Councilors.

Our attempts to contact the Civil Services Commission with regard to this issue have so far not been successful.
