We condemn acts which are disrespectful of the legal system: HRCM

Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) has condemned the current events in the country, which are causing damage to several individuals and are disrespectful of the legal system.

In a document released last night, HRCM said that in the current political turbulence in the country, Maldivians are being denied their freedom and the basic rights guaranteed by the Constitution and international agreements.

The Commission advised the parties responsible for upholding peace in the society, to ensure that their actions do not interfere with the dignity and respect of individual citizens in the society.

“We advise that the protests are conducted peacefully, and that no person is injured by the use of weapons or other gadgets, to refrain from inhumane acts and any act which may create fear in the society,” reads the document.

They also indicated that efforts are being made by the Commission to solve these problems.
