Maldives tourist arrivals up 9.9 percent so far in 2024

Tourist arrivals to the Maldives in annual terms is up 9.9 percent according to the Ministry of Tourism.

The ministry's statistics confirm the arrival of 1,159,808 exact number of tourists to the Maldives from January 01st to July 27th, which is 9.9 higher than the 1,055,031 total arrivals observed in the corresponding period last year.

The current daily arrival average in annual terms is 5,549 tourist arrivals per day, with the average duration of stay at 7.7 days.

Besides observing an annual increment, tourist arrivals exclusively from July 1st to July 27th saw a notable 15.0 percent increment as well. As such, arrivals for the said period in July this year stood at 144,279 whereas arrivals in the same period in 2023 stood at 125,424.

The highest single-day arrival was recorded on Saturday at 6,215, while the lowest single-day arrival was observed on July 9th at 4,169.

China has retained its top source market rank, with Russia closely behind in second spot. The UK and Italy are in third and fourth spots, respectively.

The total operational capacity of Maldives tourism industry right now is 1,207 properties which include tourist resorts, guesthouses, hotels, and safari vessels.

Tourist resorts contribute the highest bed capacity out of all tourist segments, with a combined bed capacity of 42,955 in all 174 registered properties. The 14 registered hotels provide a combined bed capacity of 1,956, while the 867 registered guesthouses contribute to a bed capacity total of 14,615.

The 152 registered safari vessels contribute a bed capacity of 2,955.
