Transport Ministry has decided to use smaller buses for the provision of public transportation in Male’ and Hulhumale’ under Raajje Transport Link (RTL).

The public has previously raised concerns on this front, citing the size of the buses used to provide public transportation in Male’ and Hulhumale’ was larger than ideal for the roads of Male’ and Hulhumale’.

Transport Ministry said the size of the buses has further escalated congestion in the Maldivian capital and worsened traffic. As such, the Ministry said buses are unable to operate according to the schedule which has led to a decrease in the number of people utilizing the service.

Henceforth, the Ministry said they plan to use smaller buses in the provision of the service as a solution, paving the way to increase the frequency of buses and easing the traffic flow.

However, the Ministry did not provide a date when the change will be implemented.

RTL bus service was introduced in Male’ area during the former MDP administration.
