The Parliament has approved the three members of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, who were rejected by the former legislative assembly.

The 19th parliamentary assembly, which the main opposition MDP held a majority in, denied approval to three ministers:

  • Housing Minister Dr. Ali Haidar Ahmed
  • Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed
  • Attorney General Ahmed Usham

However, all three were reappointed and sworn in on January 29, within hours of the vote.

The new parliamentary assembly, which the main ruling PNC holds a supermajority in, took office on May 28.

The new assembly directed the Government Oversight Committee to reopen a review of the request for approval for the three ministers, in its second sitting.

The ministers were approved by the committee with a vote of 8- 1, last week.

The final vote was held on the parliament floor on Monday afternoon.

Usham received approval with a unanimous vote of 87, and Shaheem received approval with a unanimous vote of 83.

Meanwhile, Haidar received approval with a majority vote of 81-four.
