According to Fuvahmulah City Council's audit report, the authority spent over MVR 200,000 to buy a three-wheeled truck for its use.

Auditor General's Office has published the council authority's audit report for 2022, which provided a detailed insight into its purchases and expenditure.

The council authority's biggest discrepancy, as per the report, is the agreement between the authority and Coral Holdings and Investment Private Limited.

The parties signed for the procurement of a three-wheeled truck at a cost MVR 227,900 on June 16, 2022.

As per the audit report, proper details of the vehicle were not provided on the information sheet issued to procure it, while the bid's acceptance despite the lack of relevant information on the sheet was another highlighted issue.

The report further highlights the supplied vehicle fell below council's provided specifications as well, and noted the additional MVR 194,900 was incurred since the authority procured an EV-pickup instead of a three-wheel truck.

Besides this, the audit report also revealed the council's failure to collect money from multiple parties that owed payments, which stood at a combined total of MVR 2,265,046 as of December 31, 2022.

Most notably, payments collected as state revenue streams, reaching a total of MVR 870,355 as of December 31, 2022 had not been deposited to the Public Account as well.

Similar discrepancies from various other council bodies had surfaced previously due to audits, but were never adequately dealt with.
