President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has extended condolences to the family of Ahmed Hafiz – who served the government for over 33 years – following his passing.

The President, in a post on X, underscored Hafiz’s service for not only the government but also to the ruling PPM-PNC coalition.

He particularly highlighted Hafiz’s invaluable contributions to the sports sector.

He conveyed condolences to Hafiz’s family and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant the departed’s soul with Jannatul Firdaus.

Hafiz commenced his civil service on May 30, 1981, as an assistant statistician at the fisheries division.

In over 33 years, he has served as a state minister at Youth Ministry, and deputy minister at Fisheries Ministry. He has also served as a member of the Board of Directors of local telecom operator, Dhiraagu.

Hafiz is well-versed in marine research. In 1991, he was conferred the national award of recognition for his service to the fisheries sector. He has also received the president’s special award in the category of writers in the fisheries sector.

Hafiz’s funeral prayer was held at Hulhumale’ Cemetry Mosque after Isha Prayer tonight.

He passed away this afternoon at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) following a long battle with cancer.
