Maldives Police Service on Monday, has confirmed the drifting body discovered near Sinamale' Bridge has been identified as an expatriate woman.

Police confirmed this to 'Sun' but did not reveal the nationality of the demised, and had not specified whether or not the cause of death was natural.

The authority said it does not have any further information regarding the corpse at the time, but assured they would divulge more information once possible.

Police earlier said it had received reports of a drifting corpse picked up by a passing vessel near the bridge, around 12:35hrs on last Saturday. The body was immediately transported to Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

An official of the hospital corroborates that the drifter had been before arrival.

Amid the ongoing weather conditions, the seas have been rough across the Maldives.

Meanwhile, two deaths related to incidents in the sea were reported last week as well.

The Maldives Meteorological Center (MET Office) more recently said that the seas were getting calmer. It also added that the weather conditions are now clear enough for transportation as well.

While a drifting corpse has been discovered in sea, another death was reported from Male' City just last week, when a missing person was discovered dead inside a Male' City apartment.
