Pres appoints Minister of Cities as Special Envoy to attend late Iran President's funeral

Minister of Cities Adam Shareef Umar has been appointed as Special Envoy of the President to attend the official funeral ceremonies of late Iranian President Dr. Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi and late Iranian Foreign Minister Hussain Amir Abdollahian.

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday announced his decision to appoint the Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works as the President's Special Envoy.

President Muizzu also expressed his condolences in a message to Mohammad Mokhber, the Interim President of Iran, following the passing of Dr. Raisi and his entourage in the tragic incident.

In his message, President Muizzu extended sympathies on behalf of the Maldivian people to the people of Iran and offered prayers to Almighty Allah to bless the souls of the departed.

The President earlier issued a directive, declaring that the national flag to be flown at half-mast for three days, from Tuesday to Thursday, in mouring of late President Raisi.

President Raisi, Foreign Minister Abdollahian and their entourage has been declared dead after the helicopter they were traveling in made a crash landing on the mountainous region in the northwest reaches of Iran on Sunday.
