Capable staff lack due to pay stagnation: CSC

President of Civil Service Commission (CSC) Mohamed Nasih said on Wednesday, that the commission has struggled to attract capable staff due to low remuneration.

In a statement the CSC President released commemorating the Maldives Civil Service Day, Nasih highlighted the lack of reasonable or equal pay for jobs.

He noted pay rises were absent for a majority of civil service jobs, and said this impact seeking qualified professionals as they are not attracted to comparatively lower salaries. The lack of salary hikes was also the cause of much despair for civil servants, Nasih added.

"Each day that pass without pay harmonization or equitable increment for civil servants, is a day we lose the scope of attracting qualified professionals for these jobs while those who are currently employed will continue to grow upset," he said.

The CSC President requested government support towards pay harmonization and equitable salary increment in all civil service ranks and designations.

Nasih highlighted the successful pay harmonization in health and education sectors, and noted that majority of the Maldivian work force are civil service employees.

He further stressed CSC played a crucial role in supporting the government in realizing its various policies, and urged the state's support to ensure transparency in the services provided through civil service.
