Mayor: pickup charges for waste disposal expensive

According to Male' City Mayor Adam Azim, the expensive rate to hire pickups for waste disposal is a primary reason for the alarming increase in trash disposals on roads and alleys.

At the general meeting of Male' City Council held on Thursday, the mayor said pickups were charging up to MVR 1,500 to dispose trash to waste stations.

Despite a decline in garbage thrown on the road or alleys, some people still continue to litter on public spaces.

Azim affirms both WAMCO and City Council are committed in efforts to maintain cleanliness of the Greater Male' region, and added that litterers are now summoned and fined by the authority.
