The Chinese government has donated 12 green ambulances to the Maldives on Sunday, March 03, 2024.

The handover ceremony held at the Ministry of Health housed in Roashanee Building was officiated by the First Lady Sajidha Mohamed.

The agreement was signed between the Chinese Ambassador to the Maldives Wang Lixin on behalf of China and the State Minister of the Ministry of Health Khadheeja Abdul Samad on behalf of the state.

While highlighting the strong bilateral and cooperative ties between the Maldives and China, the Chinese Ambassador thanked President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

In her speech, the state minister said the ambulances are ideal for smaller islands, which would enhance the Maldivian health sector.

President's Office said the ambulances will greatly assist in transporting patients during crises, emergencies and accidents. The smaller vehicles will be easier to maneuver in islands with narrower roads and lanes as well, the office added.
