Elderly man arrested for sexually abusing several boys

An elderly man has been arrested in Faafu Bilehdhoo under the accusation of sexually abusing several boys.

The 52 year old man was arrested yesterday afternoon following report to police from the Ministry of Gender. The man was arrested under a court warrant.

Bilehdhoo Council said that the man works as a labourer at the island mosque and that he has been suspended from work following the case. They also said that the abuse victims were of ages between 9 and 11.

The council also said that the accused is a married man and that rumours had circulated earlier that he had sexually abused a girl with disabilities. The case however, was never reported to the authorities.

Discovery of child abuse cases have recently increased.
