President Muizzu pledges more resorts for Thaa Atoll

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, underscoring the fact that there is only one resort in Thaa Atoll, has pledged to develop more resorts in the atoll.

He made the pledge responding to concerns by a resident of Th. Veymandoo, Adam Nazim, over the lack of resorts in Thaa Atoll on the ‘Raees ge Javaabu’ series on Thursday; a platform that enables the public to get direct responses to their queries and concerns from the President. 

In his response, President Muizzu said efforts were underway to develop more resorts in the atoll, providing assurance that several new resorts will be opened in the atoll “very soon”.

The president also noted plans to develop more airports in Thaa Atoll.

Notably, President Muizzu is presently on a tour of Thaa Atoll.

Speaking to the residents of Guraidhoo on Tuesday – his first stop in the three-day tour of Thaa Atoll – President Muizzu vowed to commence physical works on the development of an airport in Th. Guraidhoo this year.  On Thursday, President Muizzu also vowed to develop an airport in Th. Vilufushi.

Thaa Atoll already has an airport in Thimarafushi.

“Connectivity will be increased when there are three airports. The number of investors interested in the Maldives will see an increase due to the efforts underway to improve the whole economy,” he said.

President Muizzu also said the number of tourist arrivals will see a hike once the expansion project currently underway at Velana International Airport (VIA) reaches completion.

Henceforth, he said efforts to develop more resorts in Thaa Atoll will commence this year.

“Very surely, [development of resorts] in this resort will commence this year, and further resorts will be developed over the course of these five years to cover various areas or constituencies of the atoll,” he said.

“Will also pave the way for the opportunity for youths to work in resorts to earn an income while residing in their islands,” he added.

President Muizzu stressed that similar opportunities will be facilitated for youths residing in other atolls as well, to work in nearby resorts.
