President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on Friday night, described electing a candidate from an opposition party as Male’ Mayor who will antagonize the government while there is a choice to elect a candidate of ruling party as unwise and an obstruction to the development of Male’ City.

Speaking at the manifesto launching ceremony main ruling PNC’s mayoral candidate Azima Shakoor – President Muizzu said Male’ residents elected him mayor in 2021 local council elections with trust.

He emphasized that many works had been carried out after PPM-PNC were elected to the majority of the seats in the council.

In this trajectory, he detailed that in the two and a half years leading up to last year’s presidential election, the council had done all possible works that they could undertake on their own.

He cited the reason behind why some major works could not be carried out as the government in place back then, had been of opposition ideology, which had done things to obstruct the council.

He added that when he was the Male’ Mayor, all things planned apart from things that could only be accomplished if the government paved the way had been achieved.

“We did everything we planned to apart from the things which could only be done when the government provided some sort of a leeway or paved way,” he said.

President Muizzu said the whole nation placed trust in him and elected the president to develop the Maldives.

On this note, he detailed that development efforts for Male’ will be undertaken through Male’ City Council as he would prioritize a decentralized system.

However, he said there is a chance of possible development being obstructed once again while working in this course, if a candidate who will antagonize the government as their party wishes is elected.

Henceforth, he advised Male’ residents to prioritize the path to development by electing the candidate of the main ruling party.

He also affirmed the government will be working sincerely for the sake of the people.
