Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) entered Urbanco headquarters on Tuesday in Hulhumale’ as part of their probe into lease of land for lengthy periods.

ACC’s Spokesperson confirmed that a team from the commission was active at Urbanco on Tuesday as part of the investigation into a case under investigation by the commission.

Urbanco was not immediately available for comment.

ACC, last month, instructed Urbanco to halt the lease of land from Farukolhufushi in Hulhumale’, during the ongoing transitional phase.

The move came after the Office of the President-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu released a statement on Sunday, saying that Urbanco was attempting to finalize financial transaction related to land in Hulhumale’ during the transition period.

The office said they found rushed transactions relating to land during the transitional period deeply concerning, especially when it involved foreign lessees.

The office said it poses an obstacle to the execution of the incoming administration’s policies, and could be damaging to the entire State of Maldives.
