Firuzul Abdulla, the spokesperson of president-elect Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, has announced Muizzu’s decision to place a maximum limit of 700 on political posts during his administration.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Firuzul said Muizzu’s decision to limit political posts to 700 during his administration is inclusive of political appointments made to government authorities, the President’s Office, the President’s official residence and the Vice President’s official residence.
He said that the number of political posts decided by Muizzu was lower than the political posts that were there during the past two administrations.
Firuzul said President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration consisted of 1,063 political posts while former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom’s administration consisted of 808 political posts.
An increase in the number of political appointees increases the state expenditure. Most political appointees, receiving high salaries, do not bear much responsibilities.
