Majority for president from only two atolls of the Maldives

Results of the runoff round of 2023’s presidential election held on Saturday show that the incumbent president, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, only secured majority from two atolls of the Maldives.

The two atolls from which the president received majority are Alifu Alifu Atoll and Addu City. In this regard, President Solih received 51 percent of votes from Alifu Alifu Atoll, while his competitor, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu received 48 percent. The president received 54 percent of votes from Addu City while Muizzu received 45 percent.

Muizzu has secured majority from all other atolls.

Although President Solih had secured majority from Lhaviyani Atoll in the first round, Muizzu took majority from Lhaviyani Atoll in the runoff with 51 percent. President Solih received 48 percent.

President Solih won 2018’s presidential election by securing majority from all Maldivian atolls except Meemu and Faafu atolls.
