Opposition PPM-PNC coalition, on Thursday, has revealed its jailed presidential candidate, former president Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom has instructed to probe actions taking place within PPM that may hinder his candidacy as serious matters.

The instructions come following the resignation of Adam Rameez the Central Henveiru representative of Male’ City Council who was under investigation for possible misconduct after he was accused of secretly campaigning for the Male’ City Mayor Dr. Mohamed Muizzu for the upcoming presidential election, instead of Yameen.

Meeting the press following a visit to the Elections Commission on Thursday – PPM’s Deputy Leader, Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam said Yameen, in his capacity as the presidential candidate, has the full authority to make decisions regarding actions that hinder his candidacy.

Shiyam noted that Yameen, in this regard, has instructed to probe such cases as serious matters.

Underscoring courses of action for violations of the party’s constitution have been clearly laid down – Shiyam said the party is probing such cases accordingly.

Yameen, the opposition coalition’s presidential candidate, is presently serving an 11-year prison sentence after being found guilty of money laundering and bribery in connection not the sale of V. Aarah for tourist development. Yameen nor PPM wish to hand over the presidential ticket to any individual.

PPM has repeatedly stated Yameen is their only choice. However, rumors have recently blown up alleging some members within the party want the presidential ticket. These rumors have been strongly denied by the opposition coalition’s leadership.
