Planning Ministry, on Sunday, contracted Road Development Corporation (RDC) for the redevelopment of R. Alifushi roads.

The project to design and construct major roads in Alifushi was awarded to RDC for MVR 90.96 million to be completed within 540 days.

Planning Ministry states the project entails laying asphalt on 3.8 kilometers of roads in addition to the installation of storm drainage and streetlights.

The agreement pertaining to the project was signed by Director General Fathimath Shana Farooq on behalf of Planning Ministry while Managing Director Moosa Ali Manik (Mookey) signed on behalf of RDC.

Alifushi Council President Adam Imran said the project would solve various difficulties arising from the present situation of the roads on the island including flooding and damage to vehicles due to potholes.

Another issue highlighted by Imran was the lack of shade on the roads subjecting users to extreme heat. Nevertheless, Imran said trees will be planted at the roads redeveloped under the project.
