Mohamed Ibrahim dismissed from MACL, given new post as Minister of State for Transport

The President has dismissed Mohamed Ibrahim from his post of Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), and appointed him as the Minister of State for Transport and Communication.

This has been confirmed to Sun Online by a senior official of the President’s Office. He also informed that Dr Ibrahim Mahfooz of M. Alcyon has been appointed as the new MD of MACL by the President.

Mahfooz, who holds a Doctorate degree in Business Administration from Newcastle University, Australia, has held various posts at State Trading Organisation (STO) over the past 16 years.

He held the post of STO Chief Internal Auditor before he was appointed as the MD of MACL.

Acting Transport Minister, Minister of Defence Mohamed Nazim said that the change made to MACL today is part of the government’s plan to strengthen the business activities of the company. He said that further changes will be made to strengthen the company.

Mohamed Ibrahim held a senior post at MACL when the former President Mohamed Nasheed’s governmentawarded the airport project to GMR. He was involved in the transactions in this regard, for which he was criticised by various groups.
