Kaashidhoo MP Abdulla Jabir was ejected from the Parliament’s chambers on Wednesday morning following an angry outburst.
The incident had taken place during the debate on Madaveli MP Hussain Firushan’s resolution urging the government to stop dragging its feet in implementing fisheries-related policies on Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s manifesto.
He called on the government to implement the policies on the manifesto and the President’s Office website.
During the debate, Jabir defended and praised the government. He also grew angry and called for the resignation of Parliament’s speaker Mohamed Nasheed.
He accused Nasheed of trying to make the Parliament “a Kenereege lair”.
Jabir said that it was he who deserved to be Parliament speaker, and not Nasheed.
“The failure of Kenereege does not constitute failure of the government,” he said.
After he ran out of debate time, Jabir walked to the front of the chamber. He began shouting and harassing other MPs.
He rejected repeated warnings from Vilufushi MP Hassan Afeef, who has presided the sitting, to abide by regulations, before he was finally ejected from the chambers.
