Jumhoory Party’s (JP) Deputy Leader Ameen Ibrahim has been appointed to head campaign-related works of the party for the upcoming presidential elections.

JP, in a statement, said that the party’s leader, Maamigli MP Qasim Ibrahim, on Friday, had appointed Ameen to undertake all works related to the planning of the party's campaign for the elections.

JP, included in the incumbent government coalition, decided to contest the presidential elections independently while President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had extended an invitation to continue the extending coalition in his bid for a second term.

The party had decided to contest in the election within a coalition headed by the party.

MDP’s leader, Parliament Speaker Mohamed Nasheed, who lost the main ruling party’s presidential primary to President Solih, has refused to back President Solih for the election, while lobbying Qasim to contest the election.
