Housing Development Corporation (HDC), on Wednesday, announced the suspension of a staff who had taken a bribe of over MVR 1 million during a sale of a land plot from Thilafushi.

Speaking to Sun, an official from HDC said that the company’s internal audit team is presently probing the case of one of its staff taking a bribe in the sale of a land plot from Thilafushi to a private party. The official added that the staff in question has been suspended.

The official, noting the case had been submitted to Maldives Police Service, said that they began their own probe as soon as the case came to light.

Sun has learned that the transaction took place in this year’s January but had come to light just two weeks ago. Reliable sources inform that the accused staff had previously been reprimanded in a similar case.

While HDC has yet to disclose the details of the land corresponding to the bribery, Sun has been told that the transaction did not profit the company in any way.
