Hoarafushi Saleem hospitalized after heart attack

Celebrated writer Hoarafushi Mohamed Saleem has been hospitalized after suffering a heart attack.

His family confirms Saleem was hospitalized after suffering a heart attack Sunday night. His condition is reportedly serious.

However, the details of his condition remain unclear.

Saleem had begun his career in journalism in 1984. He first worked as a reporter for ‘Aafathis’. He joined ‘Haveeru’ two years later, in 1986. He had been involved in the establishment of ‘Iru Observer’ – later renamed ‘Sun Online’ in 2007.

He won the National Award for Journalism and the Golden Jubilee Pen and Diamond Pen in Journalism.

Saleem, the son of acclaimed Maldivian poet, Hoarafushi Adam Saleem, is one of the country’s best public speakers in modern times.

He currently works as a Dhivehi language teacher.
