President Solih meets German President Steinmeier

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Friday, met with the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The meeting was held during President Solih’s visit to Germany as part of his ongoing tour to three countries.

During the meeting, President praised Germany’s leadership in the European Union and explored avenues for support for the Maldives in negotiating tariff rates for Maldivian fish exports and easing visa facilitations for Maldivian travelers.

Discussions between both leaders also focused on strengthening Maldives-Germany bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest particularly expanding collaboration in climate change, renewable energy opportunities, aviation, and transport.

The two leaders concluded the meeting by reiterating their commitment to continue working together in areas of mutual interest and for the common good of the people of both countries.

During the meeting, Maldivian Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid accompanied President Solih.

Maldives and Germany established diplomatic relations on July 5, 1966, marking this year the 57th since then.

President Solih arrived in Germany on Tuesday after attending the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5) in Doha, Qatar.

He is accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Maldivian government on this trip.
