Father of Dr Munavvar and Su

The father of two former ministers, Dr Mohamed Munavvar and Usthaz Husnu Su’ood, Ibrahim Haleem (photo) of Hasankaarige, S. Meedhoo has passed away.

Belonging to the Isdhoo dynasty, Sultan Ali the 7th’s son Sultan Hassan the 10th’s son Ibrahim Manikfaan’s son Hussein Manikfaan’s son Ibrahim Manikfaan of Meedhooraha’s daughter Dhondheedhi’s daughter Maryam Dheedhi’s daughter Thutthu Dhondheedhi’s son Ibrahim Haleem died last night at IGMH. He died of a heart attack at the age of 91.

Husnu Su’ood said that his father had been ill for about three months, and that he died last night at 1.50am due to a heart attack.

“Father was sick, however, he went for medical treatment abroad recently following which he lived quite normally. However he had water in the lungs which caused problems, and passed away of a sudden heart attack,” Su’ood said.

Su’ood said that funeral prayers for his father will be held today after Asru Prayers at the Islamic Centre, and that his father’s body is currently kept at Dr Munavvar’s residence, G. Hasankaarige.

Compared to the rest of the family members, Ibrahim Haleem followed a rather different path. As a youth he was involved in fishing activities. Later when the British established a military base in Addu Atoll, he started working as an electrician and continued to do so at several tourist resorts in the Maldives.

Haleem died about 12 years after he retired and moved to Male’. He spent the past 12 years reciting Quran at Furugan mosque located on Ameenee magu. When the mosque was torn down, he continued at the temporary mosque located inside the flat building.

Ibrahim Haleem is the father of five sons and three daughters. Two of his sons, Dr Munavvar and Husnu Su’ood have held the post of Attorney General of Maldives. Dr Ahmed Anvar and Dr Abdulla Zameer are elite in the country’s education industry. The rest of his children and grandchildren are also involved in providing valuable services to the country’s education and legal sectors.

Ibrahim Haleem’s father is the famous Ali Didi of Kalhihaari Odi who was lost at sea and ended up in Africa.
