400 housing units to be developed in Hulhumale’ with Saudi aid

Four hundred new housing units are to be developed at Hulhumale’ with financial assistance from Saud Arabia.

The project is funded by Saudi Fund for Development.

Finance Ministry made an announcement on Wednesday seeking a consultancy firm for the project. The consultant will be tasked with undertaking full administration of the contract, supervising the works and assuming the role of ‘Project Manager’. This includes the supervision of contractors' works for compliance with specifications and detailed design, review, and approval of contractor’s submittals, tracking actual progress against the required progress, and certification of contractor’s payments among others. The consultant will also be tasked with carrying out Environment Impact Assessment up to the requirement of the Environmental Protection Agency. 

The consultancy firm would be selected in accordance with Saudi Fund for Development’s guidelines.

Parties interested in the project have been instructed to submit ‘Expression of Interest’ by March 26th.

As per the Finance Ministry, the project is undertaken under the administration’s goal to better the living standards in the capital with the notion of enabling all residents of Male’ to own and afford their own shelter. Moreover, it also aims to relieve the overpopulation and congestion in Male’ City.

Several housing projects initiated by the government are presently underway in both Male’ area and in atolls.
