Presidential Election: EC announce Dharubaaruge as main hub

Dharubaaruge

The Election Commission (EC) announced Dharubaaruge as the main office for the Presidential Elections to be held later this year.

Speaking with Sun about the election slated for September 9, the Deputy President of EC Ismail Habeeb revealed that the government has arranged Dharubaaruge for the commissions use.

Habeeb also said that their initial plan was to make part of the building used for DhivehiRaajjeyge Adu as their main hub. However, as the place was not being vacated on the needed timeline, and hence would prolong any repair and modification work, they moved on to a different plan.

Furthermore, he revealed that EC would be commencing its work at Dharubaaruge from March 28 onwards. He added by April 25, election related work will be kicked off, that all the repair and maintenance work is completed.

In addition to this, Habeeb provided some of the latest updates on the preparations by EC for the election. He stated that surveys for voting centers were ongoing in Male’ as well as other atolls, and that they were seeking more employees for such tasks.

While the initial voting is set for September 9, should a second round of voting need to take place, it will be held on the 30th of that month.

A total of MVR 90 million has been allocated as budget for the presidential election.
