The Department of Judicial Administration has requested the President’s Office for a physical location to operate the office of Drug Court, an institution which is to be set up under the new law on drugs.
The Director of Judicial Administration Ahmed Maajid said today that in order to set up this institution, a request has been made to the President’s office to provide an office which can accommodate Judges and employees.
“A Drug Court has been created under the new law on drugs. With the enforcement of this law on 31 December, the Drug Court has been created. On behalf of the Department of Judicial Administration, we have made a request yesterday from the President’s Office to facilitate an office to carry out the operations of the Drug Court,” Maajid said.
He also said that the operation of the Drug Court will require Judges and about thirty employees, and that employment of people will begin as soon as a physical office is established.
The Media Official of the Judicial Services Commission Hassan Zaheen said today that an announcement will be made shortly regarding the vacancy for five Judges, as required by the Drug Court.
The Press Secretary of the President’s Office Mohamed Zuhair said today, that two locations are currently being considered for the office of Drug Court. A decision will be made soon and the place will be handed over to the Judicial Administration without much delay.
